4th January, 2010. The Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Eekonomy today launched the Australian National Internet Filtering Scheme website. The website is a public information resource for "Australia's exciting new regime of Internet censorship."
The department's minister, Stephen Control, was on hand to field questions about the new site. Mr. Control said that the website has been "produced in record time using cutting edge Australian technology at a cost of less than $20 million dollars." The site is designed to provide a number of useful factsheets and feedback mechanisms that will "clear the air" around some of the more outrageous claims made by activists.
Currently there are two factsheets, and further factsheets will appear pending an additional 10 million dollars of funding in next year's federal budget. "Australian Internet consumers can be confident that their money is being well spent on protecting their children," Mr.Control said.
The website is located at http://nationalfilter.net.au/ and feedback about the site can be emailed to
