Factsheet: Unwanted Material

Unwanted Material is material that ordinary Australians would not want to see on the Internet. Since Government MPs are average white, church-going Australians like you or I, they are best positioned to determine what constitutes such material.

How we decide what is Unwanted Material

The process of identifying Unwanted Material is easier than it might at first seem. By definition, Government MPs, who represent the public, have a very good understanding of what all Australians do, or do not, want. Accordingly, the decision is made by the government, or delegated to a group of people hand-picked by the government, or both, or by the government telling the other group what to decide and then denying that they did it.

Certain lobby groups may also influence the decision, but naturally these will be prioritised according to the number of votes that they can potentially supply.

Will the scope of filtering change over time?

Some concern has been voiced that the scope of Unwanted Material may 'slip' over time. Be assured that the scope of filtering will not change: we believe that the definition of Unwanted Material is sufficiently flexible to accommodate any possible need well into the future.

How does this relate to Refused Classification material?

This is quite simple: RC (Refused Classification) material is material the government wants to censor. Also, all material we want to censor will be classified as RC. So essentially it is the same as Unwanted Material, except where we deem it isn't.

The RC classification will be divided into a number of more descriptive subcategories, including, but not limited to:

  • RC He - Refused Classification / Heresy
  • RC FTG - Refused Classification / Far Too Gay
  • RC MHFP - Refused Classification / Man-Hating Feminist Propaganda
  • RC EG - Refused Classification / Embarrassing to the Government
  • RC US - Refused Classification / Unfunny Satire
  • RC NS - Refused Classification / Nudie Shots
  • RC IFE - Refused Classification / Impertinent Facial Expressions
  • RC LC - Refused Classification / Lewd Colours
  • RC DNL - Refused Classification / Do Not Like
